M &JG House sits at the top of a rolling meadow bordered by birch trees and evergreens. Our renovation reused the foundation of an earlier house, layering in additional spaces vertically to minimize impact on the site. Extra-high ceilings and a window wall spanning the rear of the home bring ample sunlight into the primary living spaces.
The bedroom and office wing are clad in pale yellow shingles, while the public spaces, art studio and garage have a skin of red batten board. This marriage of materials and colors—along with the choice of standing-seam metal roofing—resulted in a modern, Scandinavian-inspired farmhouse that fits beautifully into its rural setting.
