The walk to the Boathouse follows a meandering path through woods, crossing a meadow and dirt road. The structure appears through a grove of hemlocks, perched at the edge of the shore. Set in a sheltered cove that opens onto a large norther lake, the Boathouse serves as a base for boating, swimming, windsurfing, kayaking and waterskiing.

A Douglas-fir timber frame spans the interior space and provides elements of craftsmanship and scale.  The building’s joinery is accented with steel tension rods, custom knife plates and strapping details. Clerestory windows and a monitor skylight running along the main ridge of the roof allow plenty of natural illumination into the space during the day, while uplights contribute a welcoming glow at night.
